THE FEMALE RUNNER

10 CEUs

Running may be the most universal sport on the planet, enjoyed by men and women alike. However, there exist concerns and considerations specific to the female runner. The Female Runner course provides a deep dive into these factors. Although complex, when the female athlete is approached with specificity and a recognition that they are different from the male athlete the level of care is significantly elevated. The focus of this course is on the intricacies involved with the female runner in an effort to best serve this population.

During this one day course, physiotherapists will learn an optimized and streamlined approach to the unique considerations of evaluating and treating female runners. This approach, coupled with the current skill set of the attendee, creates the framework to care for the complexities of the female runner. Hands-on lab sessions will refine the physio’s skills in physical evaluation, gait analysis, and strength training specific to the needs of a female runner.

The Female Runner course will also examine the roles of hormones and the menstrual cycle, anatomical considerations, running gait differences, the pelvic floor, and strength training. These factors will inform the physio’s approach to the evaluation of the female runner. Furthermore, attending physiotherapists will learn how to ask the correct, and often difficult, questions to ensure safe and proper care.

Finally, special consideration will be given to the care of pregnant and postpartum runners. As a growing number of women continue to run through pregnancy and return to training earlier, this will ensure a healthy and effective approach to training.

The clinicians creating the Female Runner have combined excellence in care of elite and recreational runners as well as pedigrees in women’s health These shared experiences combine to create a unique one day education for all attending physiotherapists. Upon completion of the Female Runner, attendees will return to their clinics with an actionable skill set to provide elite level care for their local communities.

We look forward to meeting you, learning with you, and elevating our profession together.
